I was recently in a rideshare and the trip was taking a bit longer than it should. The driver apologized as he continuously looked at the navigation app on his mobile. I asked if the company had their own navigation app he used or if he used another map app? He said the company does have their own navigation app that he uses and they've been recently testing an ai feature that learns routes from all the drivers. He then said that's why the ride is taking longer than it should because the app will route the ride based on what it's learned from drivers, even drivers who think they know a shortcut when in fact it takes longer. He mentioned a recent ride where the app routed him through a parking lot as a faster route (which is illegal) and it took him a bit to figure out how to exit the lot. I said it sounds like the ai suffers from the age old GIGO concept. Flawed input results in flawed output.
